Play your cards. Meet the Yule Lads. Survive an Icelandic Christmas.
A classic deck of playing cards reimagined through one of Iceland’s most beloved Christmas traditions: the 13 Yule Lads and their wonderfully strange family.
This 56-card deck features original illustrations inspired by Icelandic folklore, turning an ordinary game of cards into a little journey through Icelandic Christmas.
The deck includes the four traditional suits, with cards from Ace to 10, Jack, Queen and King. Across each suit, you’ll meet all 13 Yule Lads, each with his own personality, habits and mischief.
But there is more to discover than the illustrations. Every card contains a different piece of information, so while you play, you can learn about Icelandic Christmas traditions: when each Yule Lad comes down from the mountains, what mischief he is famous for, his Icelandic and English names, curious folklore facts, and even a few tips for surviving Christmas in Iceland.
Four Special Jokers
The deck also includes four illustrated Jokers dedicated to other essential characters and traditions from the Yule Lad story:
Grýla – the fearsome mother of the Yule Lads
Leppalúði – their rather less intimidating father
The Yule Cat – the enormous Christmas cat you definitely don’t want to meet
The Window Shoe – inspired by the Icelandic tradition of children leaving a shoe in their window for the Yule Lads
